Choices Presentation
I was able to use the TCI facilities to produce two major projects for school. One was prompted by my participation in student government during a time when the city was hit with a couple serious gang related shootings and other activities. One victim was a student from our school and it was clear it was an issue that hadn’t been addressed at all before that time. We created a presentation with a couple guest speakers that was put on for the student body, and included an informational video segment which I produced using the newly built TCI facilities.
I believe the segment was about 10 minutes long and with only a week to produce it, it turned out to be quite a bit of work. I had to create something intelligent, insightful and thought provoking that would cause people to want to review or change potentially risky behavior while remaining sensitive to the fact one of our friends had just been shot in the head a week earlier. I spent every day from the moment school let out until I had to go back to school the next day to produce the segment. I also spent over 20 hours each day of the weekend before the presentation the following Monday morning. I went 5 days with no sleep, a total of 7 days with less than 8 hours for sleep total. Oh to be that young again.
The segment and the presentation were a big success and I think it helped bring a lot of perspective to young minds as well as provide some closure for those grieving over such a senseless loss of life. I never kept a copy of the master, perhaps some day I will return to my high school to see if there is a copy archived somewhere.
