Thumper's Audio / Video / DJ page
I remember my interest in audio equipment and DJing going back to when I was only about 5 and I used to record songs off the radio to my less than stellar tape deck. Then after collecting enough songs, playing DJ myself complete with announcements and news and such between songs, just without any broadcast equipment. Oh if I only had the Internet back then...

I was fortunate in my high-school to have a lot of audio equipment available to me. Our band director my first couple years was a bit of an audiophile and I learned quite a bit about amps and speakers from him over those two years. Even better was he was very encouraging of me and a couple of the seniors who were also into audio stuff to dig through the old practice rooms/storage rooms which were all literally stacked to the ceiling with audio equipment it appeared no one had touched in several years.

By the end of the year, I had dug out two of the rooms and found a true 8 track stereo reel-to-reel recording unit with it’s mixer and effects and so forth. I was able to build two small studio recording setups in the one practice room and we did a lot of recording over the next two years. Later that year and the following year I got into digging through our auditorium storage rooms. Our auditorium was apparently rated as the second best performance hall in the city and among the top 10 in the state at that time, yet it seemed to get very little use. Again, I found tons of great audio and lighting equipment in the storage rooms which made for some great concert productions and live shows over the next few years while I was there.

My only regret is not having saved or brought with me any of the many remixes and original composition stuff I did during that time. There may still be some back in those recording rooms, perhaps some day I will try to go back and make some friends and see if I can gain access to any of it. Perhaps it will find its way onto the net through some curious student there in the future.
